A Medicaid patient’s family recently shared some family history that led to a full-circle moment. In her younger years, The Legacy’s patient was vitally involved and successfully fundraised for the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas. At this time, the Federation allocated funds to Golden Acres, the Dallas Home for Jewish Aged, the precursor of the Legacy. She held several volunteer leadership roles throughout her tenure with the Federation.
Now as a Medicaid patient at The Legacy, she is receiving assistance from the same Federation she fundraised for years ago. Her family is happy to know the support she worked tirelessly for is being reciprocated now that she is in need.
The state of Texas reimburses The Legacy for care of long-term skilled nursing Medicaid patients at a predetermined amount. This amount is significantly less than the amount it actually costs to care for these patients. In partnership with the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas, The Legacy Senior Communities Foundation provided over $1.4 million in Medicaid patient support last year. Funding the gap between Medicaid reimbursements and the actual cost of care is The Legacy’s largest allocation of philanthropic funds.
