The Legacy Senior Communities has partnered with Dr. Tam Cummings, PhD, renown gerontologist and author of “Untangling Dementia,” to develop our new Dementia Aware program. The platform’s goal is to educate individuals on the brain disease and debunk preconceived notions surrounding dementia. Dementia Aware explores how the disease physically changes the brain, how to identify the different forms of dementia and stages of the disease, and how to recognize behavior patterns.
In partnership with Tam Cummings, PhD, we have designed and implemented our Dementia Aware Certified Caregiver program for all employees at both of our campuses, as well as for our in-home health division, The Legacy at Home. The certification program provides in-depth education on how the physical effects of the disease affect the brain, as well as hands-on training for how to best support someone dealing with memory loss. At the end of the 12-week training program, our employees are certified to provide next-level care for our memory support residents.
