One evening in the dining room an Independent Living resident had a vertigo spell come on quickly and intensely. While the resident has managed vertigo before, this episode was especially bad.
After sharing her concerns with the dining team, two Legacy security officers brought a wheelchair for the resident and helped her back to her apartment. They made sure she was safely seated on the sofa, and put her phone with her, as well as the tv remote.
Soon after, the resident received a call from the dining room hostess. She noticed the resident had not eaten and wanted to send food up to the apartment. While thankful, the resident was not well enough to eat yet.
The resident’s son lives nearby and came over to check on his mother. He helped her to bed early that evening. Sometime after going to bed, the resident heard someone calling her name from the apartment’s front door. It was one of the security officers that brought her upstairs, and they wanted to check on the resident and make sure she was okay. The three spoke for a few minutes. Once the security officers felt the resident was well enough to stay alone, they let themselves out.
This story was recommended by the resident, as she was amazed by what the Legacy team did that went beyond usual customer service at a restaurant or apartment home. She was greatly appreciative of the unexpected service and care. She shared, “This is quite the place to live!”
Make more moments like this possible by supporting The Legacy Senior Communities Foundation. It is our great honor to care for seniors. We continue to uphold the mission of our founders by providing a continuum of care to seniors and their families delivered with compassion, dignity, and excellence, while embracing our Jewish values.
Every year, The Legacy Senior Communities Foundation, with support from The Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas, provides more than $1 million in charitable care to Jewish seniors in the Dallas area. This care includes resident support and thousands of hours of Personal Assistance Services provided by The Legacy at Home grant program.
It is the community’s continued support that leaves an imprint on the present and future of our organization, creating a level of distinction we call The Legacy Difference. This distinction includes Jewish life initiatives, Kosher dining programming, social events and activities, resident transportation, security, and much more!
The Legacy is able to respond to the most urgent and changing needs of our residents and their families, and the growing demand for senior care and services thanks to our generous donors.
