A Soulful Story: Mother-Daughter Mahjong

September 8, 2023

Feeding the Jewish Soul is a weekly series of posts that will give you insight into what The Legacy does day in day out, and how it impacts the seniors we serve.

Everyone is talking about Mahjong! It is more popular than ever, but it can be intimidating for beginners.

Patients and residents at The Legacy Willow Bend Healthcare Center currently have the opportunity to learn the tile-based Chinese game. Every week, a group gets together with a team member to learn and practice the intricate game rules. Together, this group is picking up their pace and skills.

A resident who is learning right now mentioned it in passing to her daughter. The daughter has always wanted to learn but never knew where to start. The daughter arranged to come during the Maj session one week. And then she came back the next week, and now the mother-daughter duo have been attending the weekly sessions for months. They are having fun learning the game, but more so, they both cherish getting to spend extra time with one another!

Mark your calendar for Sunday, April 14, 2024! The Legacy will be hosting its inaugural Mahjong tournament benefiting The Legacy Knit and Crochet Club. The club’s hats and scarves are donated to organizations who serve those in need. Since the club began in 2010, over 33,000 handmade pieces have been donated to the greater Dallas community.
