A Soulful Story: Giving Back to Our Community

September 16, 2022

Feeding the Jewish Soul is a series of weekly emails that will give you an insight into what The Legacy does day in day out and how it impacts the seniors we serve.

The Legacy Knit and Crochet Club works year-round making hats, scarves, blankets, dolls, and washcloths. Last year, about 20 volunteers (mostly residents!) produced over 4,500 pieces of handmade items.

At their 2021 distribution event, the items were given to 13 area organizations that serve low-income and/or at-risk individuals and families including: Christ United Methodist Church of Plano; Cochran Chapel; Dallas Police Department; Hope’s Door; Jewish Family Service; Plano ISD; Plano Police Department; Minnie’s Food Pantry; National Council of Jewish Women; Mosaic Family Services; Streetside Showers; and Temple Emanu-El.

Since The Legacy Knit and Crochet Club began in 2010, over 33,000 handmade pieces have been donated to the greater Dallas community.

Swing by our Blog every Friday to welcome in Shabbat with a new story highlighting the life seniors live at The Legacy Senior Communities.
