The Legacy Senior Communities has partnered with Dr. Tam Cummings, PhD, renowned gerontologist and author of “Untangling Dementia,” to develop our new Dementia Aware program." The program aims to educate individuals on brain disease and debunking the preconceived notions surrounding it. Dementia Aware also explores how the disease physically changes the brain, how to identify the different forms of dementia and its stages, and how to identify behavioral patterns.
In partnership with Tam Cummings, PhD, we have developed and implemented the Dementia Aware Certified Caregiver program for all team members at both campuses, and The Legacy at Home. This program provides in-depth education on how the physical effects of the disease impacts the brain, as well as hands-on training for how to best support someone dealing with memory loss. At the end of the 12-week training program, team members will be certified to provide next-level care for our memory support residents.
