The Doctor is in the House. Dr. Tam Cummings visits The Legacy Midtown Park

April 1, 2022

This week, nationally renown gerontologist Tam Cummings, PhD, is making the rounds at The Legacy Midtown Park, offering onsite training to our memory support team members. The diligent doctor is going above and beyond, meeting family members, having meals with residents, and getting up at all hours of the evening to train team members who are working late-night shifts.

During her team member training, Dr. Cummings demonstrates how to interact with residents who have dementia, how to identify pain cues, and ultimately, deliver better care for those touched with memory loss.

No longer can you call a locked neighborhood a true memory support program. The Legacy is picking up the mantle of care in the field of memory support, with a mission of becoming the leader in specialized dementia training and care. In collaboration with Dr. Cummings, PhD, The Legacy Midtown Park is bringing her Dementia Aware certification program to each of our team members. This program provides in-depth education on how dementia effects the brain and hands-on training for how to best support someone with memory loss. This means you can be confident knowing that our staff is well equipped to provide the highest quality care to your patient, from the way they communicate and redirect to calming techniques to physical touch.
