A Soulful Story: L’Shanah Tovah

September 15, 2023

Feeding the Jewish Soul is a weekly series of posts that will give you insight into what The Legacy does day in day out, and how it impacts the seniors we serve.

Rosh HaShanah is both contemplative, as we turn to the introspection required of us before Yom Kippur, and festive, as we celebrate the Jewish New Year. A special part of the joy around Rosh HaShanah is the fact that some of our residents have their family members join them at our Rosh HaShanah services. Recently on a Sunday afternoon, Rabbi Cohen encountered two residents, each with their sons. Each son asked about joining us for our High Holy Day services, to which the Rabbi enthusiastically replied: “Of course, You are welcome to join us.” One resident’s son who had been present for the Passover Seder was delighted. The other resident’s son said: “Well yes, I was with you last Rosh HaShanah and I might like to come and join you again. I was just wondering if I could decide at the last minute and drive up from Austin. Rabbi Cohen was able to reassure him, “Our sanctuary has plenty of space for more guests.”  Each resident and each son were gratified, and the conversation turned to how lucky each mother was to have such a son!

Thank you for being part of our Legacy family! We wish you a happy, healthy, and sweet new year! The Legacy Senior Communities has provided innovative, compassionate care to Jewish seniors and families since 1953. Our continued success is thanks to our residents, patients, clients, families, board trustees, donors, and volunteers. We look forward to celebrating our 70th anniversary with you in the coming year!

Make more moments like this possible by supporting The Legacy Senior Communities Foundation. It is our great honor to care for seniors. We continue to uphold the mission of our founders by providing a continuum of care to seniors and their families delivered with compassion, dignity, and excellence, while embracing our Jewish values.

Every year, The Legacy Senior Communities Foundation, with support from The Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas, provides more than $1 million in charitable care to Jewish seniors in the Dallas area. This care includes resident support and thousands of hours of Personal Assistance Services provided by The Legacy at Home grant program.

It is the community’s continued support that leaves an imprint on the present and future of our organization, creating a level of distinction we call The Legacy Difference. This distinction includes Jewish life initiatives, Kosher dining programming, social events and activities, resident transportation, security, and much more!

The Legacy is able to respond to the most urgent and changing needs of our residents and their families, and the growing demand for senior care and services thanks to our generous donors.

Swing by our Blog every Friday to welcome in Shabbat with a new story highlighting the life seniors live at The Legacy Senior Communities.
