Team members across The Legacy have been recertifying their CPR, AED, and Heimlich training over the summer months. The importance of this training was front and center recently at The Legacy Midtown Park.
A resident came down to the clinic panicked because her friend was in Stanley’s Bistro choking on a piece of food and unable to breathe. She was pleading for help. Esther Evans, Resident Services Coordinator in the Sharon and Charles Levin, MD Clinic, ran to the resident and performed the Heimlich maneuver. Thanks to the training she had a few weeks ago, Esther knew exactly what to do and jumped into action! She was able to dislodge the food from the resident’s windpipe successfully.
Esther makes an impact on residents’ lives daily, but on this day she remained calm and literally saved a life!

This care includes resident support and thousands of hours of Personal Assistance Services provided by The Legacy at Home grant program.
