A Soulful Story: International Kindness

February 20, 2023

Feeding the Jewish Soul is a series of weekly emails that will give you an insight into what The Legacy does day in day out and how it impacts the seniors we serve.

BBYO (B’nai B’rith Youth Organization) is currently hosting its annual International Convention in Dallas (February 16-20, 2023). More than 5,000 of the Jewish community’s top teen leaders, educators, professionals, and philanthropists from around the world gather for one of the largest Jewish communal events of the year.

The Legacy Midtown Park and Willow Bend were two of many selected volunteer sites to do mitzvah projects as part of the convention experience. 80 teens and 10 staff members came to The Legacy prior to the convention to visit with residents, play chair volleyball, and make Valentine’s Day cards for Children’s Health.

One BBYO teen decided to make a Valentine’s Day card for a resident he had visited with earlier in the day. When the teen gave the card to the resident she was beyond grateful and gushed about how she was going to cherish the card and put it on display in her room. The resident’s joyous response and gratitude brought tears to the teen’s eyes. He is going home knowing that a simple act of kindness can truly make an impact, while the resident gets to treasure the experience and memory.
