A Soulful Story: In Memory of Buddy Rosenthal

June 16, 2023

Feeding the Jewish Soul is a series of weekly emails that will give you an insight into what The Legacy does day in day out and how it impacts the seniors we serve.

This week, The Legacy lost a piece of our soul. Herbert “Buddy” Rosenthal was chair of our first community, Dallas Home for the Jewish Aged on the Golden Acres campus, from 1988-1990. He served The Legacy Senior Communities in a variety of capacities since he was 25 years old.

In 2015, Buddy and his wife, Rita, moved to The Legacy Willow Bend.

They were wonderful advocates for the greater Jewish community, but also for The Legacy. Buddy remained an active board member giving advice and participating on The Legacy Senior Communities board until he passed away on June 10th. This past March, Buddy, along with Andrea Statman, Director of Development and past board chair, was so proud to present the history of The Legacy Senior Communities to the residents at The Legacy Willow Bend. He so enjoyed reliving those special memories.

Once The Legacy Midtown Park opened, Buddy, who was already known and loved by residents, became a regular visitor every Friday for lunch and a private poker game. The game was made up of friends residing at The Legacy Midtown Park and others with who he had played together for decades.

It was The Legacy’s honor to serve and care for Buddy and Rita for the past eight years. Buddy will always be a part of The Legacy’s history, but more importantly, he will always be in our hearts. May his and Rita’s memory be a blessing.

Make more moments like this possible by supporting The Legacy Senior Communities Foundation. It is our great honor to care for seniors. We continue to uphold the mission of our founders by providing a continuum of care to seniors and their families delivered with compassion, dignity, and excellence, while embracing our Jewish values.

Every year, The Legacy Senior Communities Foundation, with support from The Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas, provides more than $1 million in charitable care to Jewish seniors in the Dallas area. This care includes resident support and thousands of hours of Personal Assistance Services provided by The Legacy at Home grant program.

It is the community’s continued support that leaves an imprint on the present and future of our organization, creating a level of distinction we call The Legacy Difference. This distinction includes Jewish life initiatives, Kosher dining programming, social events and activities, resident transportation, security, and much more!

The Legacy is able to respond to the most urgent and changing needs of our residents and their families, and the growing demand for senior care and services thanks to our generous donors.

Swing by our Blog every Friday to welcome in Shabbat with a new story highlighting the life seniors live at The Legacy Senior Communities.
