A nightmare happened to Elmo and his family on October 31, 2022. His mom passed away in her sleep. It is believed that an inactive lifestyle was a contributing factor to her early passing.
On the first Mother’s Day since her passing, Elmo ran his first 5k race, the JCC’s Bagel Run, with The Legacy team. Running a 5k was always on his bucket list, and this race gave Elmo the motivation and inspiration to get physically active in honor of his mother.
Elmo worked out three weeks prior to the race to get ready, but on the day of the race, his focus was on his mom. To accomplish his race goal was an amazing feeling that he will always remember, and he appreciates The Legacy for the opportunity to make it happen.

Every year, The Legacy Senior Communities Foundation, with support from The Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas, provides more than $1 million in charitable care to Jewish seniors in the Dallas area. This care includes resident support and thousands of hours of Personal Assistance Services provided by The Legacy at Home grant program.
