A Soulful Story: Deerest Story

August 4, 2023

Feeding the Jewish Soul is a weekly series of posts that will give you insight into what The Legacy does day in day out, and how it impacts the seniors we serve.

Janice and Larry Feldman are pictured above next to a paper machete deer made by Larry’s grandmother when she lived at the Dallas Home for Jewish Aged on the Golden Acres campus in East Dallas. Ida Bookem, Larry’s grandmother, lived at Golden Acres for 25 years living to the age of 99. Ida came to the United States from Vilnius, Lithuania at the turn of the 1900s. She was one of the approximately 10,000 Jewish immigrants that entered through the port of Galveston rather than Ellis Island.

When Larry and Janice decided to sell their home and move into The Legacy Midtown Park, they did not realize until after moving in that The Legacy is the same organization that owned and operated Golden Acres. The deer has come home to The Legacy with the Feldmans – welcome Janice and Larry!

Make more moments like this possible by supporting The Legacy Senior Communities Foundation. It is our great honor to care for seniors. We continue to uphold the mission of our founders by providing a continuum of care to seniors and their families delivered with compassion, dignity, and excellence, while embracing our Jewish values.

Every year, The Legacy Senior Communities Foundation, with support from The Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas, provides more than $1 million in charitable care to Jewish seniors in the Dallas area. This care includes resident support and thousands of hours of Personal Assistance Services provided by The Legacy at Home grant program.

It is the community’s continued support that leaves an imprint on the present and future of our organization, creating a level of distinction we call The Legacy Difference. This distinction includes Jewish life initiatives, Kosher dining programming, social events and activities, resident transportation, security, and much more!

The Legacy is able to respond to the most urgent and changing needs of our residents and their families, and the growing demand for senior care and services thanks to our generous donors.

Swing by our Blog every Friday to welcome in Shabbat with a new story highlighting the life seniors live at The Legacy Senior Communities.
