A Soulful Story: A Son’s Intuition to Visit Mom

May 12, 2023

Feeding the Jewish Soul is a series of weekly emails that will give you an insight into what The Legacy does day in day out and how it impacts the seniors we serve.

A resident’s son happened to be driving by The Legacy Willow Bend when he felt an inclination to stop and see his Mom even though it was not his usual visiting time. He found his mom with a hospice volunteer discussing the quilt she and his mother have been working on together. Since a stroke, his mother has not been able to quilt, but the hospice volunteer has been taking his mom’s creative direction to make a Montana inspired quilt. This process bought great joy to his mom. He shared with The Legacy team that he had not seen his mother that happy in a long time.

Shortly after this visit, the hospice patient peacefully but unexpectantly passed.

Both the son and the hospice volunteer have a special memory of that happy experience that resulted from an impromptu visit. It gave the son some peace that his mother was so cheerful and joyful just prior to passing. Due to this, he was more accepting of her unexpected passing.  He was grateful for everyone’s care of his mother, but especially so seeing firsthand how our hospice volunteer made a positive impact on his mother’s life.

In honor of Mother’s Day, make more moments like this possible by supporting The Legacy Senior Communities Foundation. It is our great honor to care for your mothers, fathers, and other dear loved ones. We continue to uphold the mission of our founders by providing a continuum of care to seniors and their families delivered with compassion, dignity, and excellence, while embracing our Jewish values.

The Legacy is able to respond to the most urgent and changing needs of our residents and their families, and the growing demand for senior care and services thanks to our generous donors. This Mother’s Day, make a tribute donation to The Legacy in honor of your mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, aunt, or special woman in your life. The Legacy will promptly send a tribute notecard to the honoree notifying them of your generous gift.

It is the community’s continued support that leaves an imprint on the present and future of our organization, creating a level of distinction we call The Legacy Difference. This distinction includes Jewish life initiatives, Kosher dining programming, social events and activities, resident transportation, security, and much more!

Every year, The Legacy Senior Communities Foundation, with support from The Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas, provides more than $1 million in charitable care to Jewish seniors in the Dallas area. This care includes resident support and thousands of hours of Personal Assistance Services provided by The Legacy at Home grant program.

Swing by our Blog every Friday to welcome in Shabbat with a new story highlighting the life seniors live at The Legacy Senior Communities.
